Singing in the oral tradition.
Simple songs, learned by ear.
This means we learn by listening to one another. A facilitator offers a short phrase and the group sings it back. We repeat it, gradually weaving in layers and harmonies, until we don’t need to think about the song anymore and it settles into our bodies.
There’s nothing to read or remember. Just add your voice in whatever way feels natural, and let the repetition and the group hold the song.
We will take our time, making room to notice what it is like to contribute to the shared sound and to be carried by it. You don’t need to arrive knowing how you want to sound, or with anything prepared.
An invitation to create as you sing.
Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to move between singing, vocal exploration and art-making. A sound might lead to an image; an image might offer another way to notice or express something that is difficult to put into words. There is no particular result to work towards.
These offerings are an invitation to follow whichever form of expression calls to you, or to simply rest in the sound. You can engage with them—or not—as feels right for you at the moment.
The emphasis is on the experience of making, listening and noticing, rather than on producing a finished piece. You do not need to consider yourself an artist, and there is no expectation that what you make will look or sound a particular way.
Space for your own experience.
We each arrive with our own histories, feelings and ways of being. Singing and creative expression offer ways to be with that experience without needing to explain it all in words.
As a psychotherapy group, Creative Resonance makes intentional space for personal exploration and reflection, alongside the experience of creating with others. The therapeutic process can unfold through singing, making, listening and quiet presence. There is no pressure to share personal stories.
You are welcome to sing, hum, listen, or take a quiet moment. The invitation is to be curious about your experience, at your own pace, within a shared space supported by Jordan and Kate.
The flow of the day
The flow of the day will include communal singing, vocal exploration, intermodal art-making and time outdoors.
We will make room for shared experience and individual reflection, moving between the sound of the group and your own creative exploration. Time outdoors offers another way to attend to what is around you and what you notice within yourself.
The day runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with six hours of Expressive Arts Therapy and a one-hour lunch break.
Enrolment is limited to twenty participants.
